I can't sleep so...

... I thought that I would update you on the UnSpun list I started because I hate Taco Bell. It has become rather popular! I should point out that I actually only created a list of 4 things I hate about Taco Bell, everything else has been added by UnSpun and Mechanical Turk users. Just people like you and me out there on the web expressing how much they hate Taco Bell.

I've decided to boycott...

... Circuit City. I'm very dissapointed in them. They laid me off way back when, but I was still cool with them because I openly admit I sucked at selling computers. I refused to hassle people for extended service plans when they came in and could barely afford the computer that was free after rebates. Plus, I would point out how much cooler the Macs were to people and sell a dozen iMacs then we would be out of stock for a week and I wouldn't be able to sell anything LOL.

But, then they canned my friend because she was topped out at her wage. How do I know this? They happened to fire all of the people who had topped out of their payscale in her department. How sad is it that loyalty and comittment mean nothing to these folks. My friend has worked there for 7 years, never been written up, doesn't miss work very often, and was extremely good at what she did, I remember because she was a hell of a lot better than I was at it!

These things happen though. My own dad put in 21 years with a company. He helped them build their business. As soon as he was a year from retirement, all of the sudden they fired him. He used to beat himself up trying to figure out what it was that he did wrong because nobody would ever tell him. All the while it was clear to me. A harsh reality... they don't want to pay your pension.

That's one reason why I started an IRA so young. There's no way I'm going to put my future in the hands of a company. It makes sense that they do these kinds of things. They are interested in their bottom line, showing return on investments and paying the stock holders, not the poor people who answer the phones, or stock the shelves.

Be careful out there kids, watch your own back and don't rely on any social service to pay your way in the future.

On second thought...

... I'm totally trademarking this one:

"I've always said, Let go and let god. Sometimes you gotta rock Dusty Springfield in a glorious gown at the grammy's, sometimes that just needs to happen. Fuck the haters!"

What the hell...

... Did I eat before I went to bed. So last night I had this amazing dream. It started completely dark, then I look around and realize I'm on some sort of stage, like the grammy's or something. At the exact moment I notice this... "Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield starts playing. It was only then that I realized I had a horrible 50's women's haircut, and a glorious gown... yes... I WAS Dusty Springfield, singing "Son of a Preacher Man" at the grammy's.

LOL To help illustrate the level of wrong, I have decided to post the lyrics to this song here, It's a phenominal song in it's own right, just not something I'd choose to sing to in drag at the grammys... until now. I've always said though, Let go and let god. Sometimes you gotta rock Dusty Springfield in a glorious gown at the grammy's, sometimes that just needs to happen. Fuck the haters.:

Billy-Ray was a preacher's son
And when his daddy would visit he'd come along
When they'd gather 'round and started talkin'
Is when Billy would take me walkin'
A' through the backyard we'd go walkin'
And then he'd look into my eyes
And lord knows to my surprise

The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, yes he was
Oh, yes he was

Being good isn't always easy
No matter how hard I'd try
When he started sweet-talkin' to me
He'd come and tell me everything is all right
He'd kiss and tell me everything is all right
And can we get away again tonight?

The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, yes he was
Oh, yes he was

How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin' kisses from me on the sly
Takin' time to make time
Tellin' me that he's all mine
Learnin' from each other's knowing
Lookin' to see how much we been growin'

And the only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, yes he was
Oh
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man

You have no idea...

...What coffee really tastes like. You must go to this website that was recommended to me by a co-worker/coffee enthusiast.

They got it to me within 3 days visa the basic shipping method, and it actually does taste different. LOL I'm generally skeptical of these things, but I'm now a believer. It's actually sort of sweet! This is where I'll be buying my coffee from now on! No more stale coffee for me!

Some of my finer quotes

So, I was BSing with my co-workers today when I mentioned a few conversations I've had recently and how I need to bite my tongue because I'm becoming bitter in my old age. They requested I create this blog because I have been very "quotable" lately. So I suppose I will share my insight:

"Perhaps your telekinesis isn't working because you spelled it wrong!"

(while talking on a cell phone) "I need to throw a rock through your window, Can I call you back on the landline?"

"I love PETA, fuck the haters, I want a little entertainment for my donated dollar. If I'm going to give you my hard earned cash I want you to throw some paint on some celebrities, free mountain lions in a heavily populated area, get mowed over by a tractor in protest... something, for christsakes! Work for it!"

A new one I added to the list this afternoon:

"They say there is nothing better than chocolate, apparently they've never beat dumbasses with a baseball bat."

and my personal favorite strictly out of it's profound nature:

"Never trust the old lady by the gumball machine, for only fate and she knows what the plastic bubble will hold."

So, I guess what I'm saying is don't piss me off this week, I'm being eloquent and it's proving dangerous.

Declawing

Today's post refers to a post from Jeff's blog which you can read by clicking here

I really like, and agree with, Jeff's new post describing the act of declawing a cat. I'm not a cat person, but I really love nature for what it is, not for the aspects that benefit me. I firmly believe that a domesticated animal requires certain health procedures that animals in the wild obviously don't. I also think that living together with someone, be it a person, or animal, requires a little give here and there. For instance, my dog must wear a collar, which she absolutely can't stand to wear (I know because she constantly manages to escape it) so that she can be identified and doesn't end up in puppy prison when the dog catcher comes around. Some things you just have to do, but I have the firm belief that you should draw the line when it no longer benefits the life or health of your pet. Having pets in your life requires some level of responsibility and patience. Your cat may scratch you from time to time, your dog may wake you up at 2AM because they want outside to chase a cat... it's all part of the trade off you get for the quality of life they offer in return. Pets calm people, give them something cute and cuddly to come home to, that doesn't mean it's all rainbows and lollipops...mutilating your animal because of the inconvenience it causes you is just wrong in my opinion! Great post Jeff!

300

I really, really, really liked this movie. Even though I thought the previews looked good, I wasn't in the mood to see a movie tonight. Nevertheless I had to go for a team outting event at work. I'm so happy I went. There were long lines and the theater was packed which made me glad that we decided to buy all the tickets in advance.

The way the story was told was rather riveting. There was a good balance of story, gore, and cinematography so that no one thing overpowered the movie. I have a feeling this was a much longer movie than eventually made it to theaters. I've already signed up on Amazon to be notified when the DVD gets released for this reason.

The acting was well done for the most part. The lines were blurred slightly between reality and fiction, but never frayed so far out as to distract.

This is definitely a movie you want to see in the theater. The I can't imagine the imagery being the same on a home theater, although Sony does make some pretty LCDs these days, and Blu-Ray could certainly shine this movie up, it's still not the same unless the Spartans are all 12 feet tall LOL. I would still recommend you FANDANGO your tickets. Especially if you live in a bigger city. Our tiny little theater was flooded with people, and when I called to check which theater it was at the 411 lady from my cell phone provider said that the whole country was calling in for showtimes for 300.

It is certainly worth the going rate of a movie ticket wherever you are.

Bought a lotto ticket

So, I have decided that I need to win the lottery, and bought a ticket today. I think the pot was like 200+ million dollars. I have decided to make my first act of being a millionaire (provided I win), purchasing a tricked out Apple Mac Pro for Zoso with dual 30" monitors. I'm not sure where she will keep this beast of a machine, but hey, that's a great problem to have. Next I will purchase a swank New Mac Pro for myself (these set-ups are worth $19,000 per computer... so yes, I would have to win the lotto to do this.) Then I would buy myself a house and a new car, but not until I had a beautiful new Mac Pro. I think I would add a rack of XSERVE's with RAID storage to it as well so that I didn't have to wait but milliseconds to render a full length HD movie and store hundreds of them just for the hell of it.

What kind of car you ask? Well, I'm actually good with a Hybrid Nissan Altima. It's a $32,000 car, which is pocket change for somebody with a quarter of a billion dollars, but I've always loved my Nissans, and the Altima is an awesome car!

What kind of house? I have a few simple rules:

1) Must have pool.
2) I will need quarters for my live-in chef, maid, and an extension of my bedroom for my poolboy = )
3) I want it to be wired from end to end with T3 lines and voice controlled temperature controls.
4) There will be no fireplaces.
5) I want a trampoline and a big yard to put my Siberian Husky (which I don't have yet) in.

Then I would get the Apartment in Downtown Seattle. Which will pretty much be a chic display of modern living.

Then I will build J's recreation center and fill it with Nintendo Wii's and iMacs for less fortunate children.

Then I will have to do something about all of this hunger and starvation in the world, but not before I have a Starbucks installed in my apartment in Seattle.
