Have a happy...

... April Fool's Day! Don't get suckered too horribly today. No, your eyes don't decieve you, I've made quite a few updates on the Blog. Cleaned up some links that were no longer relevant, tweaked a few things here and there. Of course I also included a permanently embedded link to my Wish List on Amazon.com, should any of you want to buy me something just to remind me how cool I am.

Yes, that is an evil MySpace link up at the top. I had avoided it for as long as possible but all my friends and co-workers are using MySpace so I had to make the plunge. I still hate the interface though, but hey, the web seems to revolve around it these days so I guess I'll give it a spin.

Oddly enough I found a certain somebody hiding out on MySpace who I never thought I'd see there in a million years... Happy early birthday Joshy! I would buy you a brand new lawnmower, but it would be kinda spendy to ship that far.

Alrighty kids, I'm off to go buy soda at 1:30 in the morning because I'm an addict. Later!

OOOH!!! I do have one last bit of big news. It seems that Zoso is finally making the plunge to Apple! I will be assisting her whilst she buys the new Mac on Tuesday. I'm possibly more excited than she is. We Mac users are such a dorky bunch! I wonder if I get a toaster for inducting a newbie. Perhaps I will write to Apple and ask. Congrats in advance on the new Mac Zoso... I shall be envious.

MySpace?!?! April Fool's?? I can't believe you actually gave into it.

It has to be the single most overhyped "product" out there! It's something like a yearbook, a collection of pre-teen inspired webpages, and a yellowbook for horny people and pedophiles.

I've yet to find a single person that could explain it's appeal other than that their friend's are "on there".

It's high school for the web - "all my friends are doing it!" Egads.

It's a free, canned format, website, with free e-mail, and a free messenger (Yahoo, MSN...anyone?) only they've managed to convince people it's a novelty. Next year "the wheel" will be all the rage.

So, if you can interact with the people you care to interact with, does it really matter what forum you use? Like I say in my blog, I'm not a fan of MySpace, but I am a fan of keeping up with people and so far, it has allowed me to connect with 2 people who I haven't talked to in forever and get to know what's going on with them. That's the appeal to it. It's also not a canned format, it allows CSS for div overlays which means that you can scrap the format they use altogether and create your own webpage out of it. I think at times you are too critical of things. Dateline would probably have you believe that EVERYBODY on MySpace is a senior citizen trolling for 12-year-olds, and that certainly exists, but the concerns are there with young kids having any sort of unlocked blog.

Plus, It's definitely not replacing my current blog, it just allows me to communicate with people in a format they use more often.

LOL Let go of the fear! I've also put my profile up for Amazon.com, UnSpun, and Askville. Doesn't mean you have to visit any of them, and nobody is asking you to get a MySpace profile.

I don't really care if you have a myspace. It surprises me for some reason though! And my comments were simply meant as a general rant about it.

I genuinely dislike Myspace, and not because I harbor any Dateline induced delusions.
When I look at Myspace pages I see no difference between them and a early 90's rookie webpage with with lots of flashing icons, cheesy backgrounds, and obnoxious .wav files.

But more over I dislike the sort of self adulation and pursuit of attention it tends to encourage in people. It has turned to heart felt notion of keeping in touch into a perverse popularity contest by which people are judged.

Obviously, not everyone cares about that aspect but to me it just reeks of "keeping up with Joneses" brought to the internet. Everyone else has got it...I need it too (even if I already have something like it). Just not my cup of tea.

While you're on the phone with Apple about that toaster, will you ask over the health of the chia turtle? One must be sure its being taken care of!
