To prove I'm not all about hatred...

... I created a list about a restaraunt that I actually like: Burger King. It can do no wrong in my opinion:

What business really needs...

...is Mac OSX. So I got my promotion to Digital Technologies Trainer at work, and I am salaried. This comes with all sorts of fancy quirks. For example, I can work on my time off. LOL I'm not complaining, I knew it entailed a lot of additional hours when I took it on, but here's the thing: With this new role I use more computing. I use Windows XP all the time. Windows Vista some of the time, and MS Office and SharePoint endlessly.

They all suck. Not just because I like Apple, but because I'm not the only one who says so. I'm still waiting for somebody to explain to me why my Outlook inbox is so difficult and lethargic to search, when my OSX Mail inbox opens in a snap.

I don't understand why it takes Windows XP a good 5 minutes to get up and running. I don't buy the excuses as to why sharepoint won't display properly in Firefox or Opera.

Bottom line... The business world needs Mac OSX desperately. I investigated the it, and MS Access is about the only thing we use that won't run in OSX, and there is Filemaker Pro for that.

I hope my company is getting one hell of a kick back from Dell for all this lost time their systems generate. What I would give to just hook up my Mac at work. I'll even buy my own... just let me use a computer that can handle the things I need to get done!

J's iTunes library breaks 100GB...

...with the latest episode of Andy Barker P.I.

I believe this is a certified addiction and it's possible I might need an intervention. One thing I definitely need is another iPod since my current one can't hold all of this stuff. And yes my monthly bill at the iTunes store is still in the neighborhood of $150. I'm going to be so pissed at myself when I'm old and have no money cause I spent it on TV that I could be watching for free if I just got up the ambition to set my TiVo properly.

Will J never learn?

So, how can you not watch...

Another great quote...

...from Andy Barker P.I.:

"You don't laugh at a man for screamin' at a chicken! They're prehistoric for god's sake!"

You guys have got to get in on this show! It's great! Dig it on iTunes, I think the first episode is still free.

Are you a Macsexual...

...or Macurious? These are the insane new phrases coined by Engadget to describe those who adamantly love Apple computer, or are curious about becoming somebody who adamantly loves their Mac.

My Spin gets popular...

...thanks to Songs that will always be cool, and my hatred of McDonalds!

Just an update on two of the UnSpun lists that I've posted recently:

Top Songs that will Always be Cool has garnered 136 votes from 28 people in less than 2 full days! Go me. currently battling for the coveted #1 spot on that list are Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynard Skynard.

AND...

Things You Hate Most About McDonalds has received 124 votes by 37 people in less than 1 full day, making it my second most successful list ever. Apparently the food is what people are hating most about McDonalds. Yeah, that's pretty forseeable.

One of the greatest quotes...

...of all time. I'm a huge fan of the new TV series Andy Barker P.I. It stars Andy Richter and Conan O'Brien is one of the writers. This is a quote from one of the episodes, but you really can't understand it without watching the episode, it's the 2nd one and it's currently available from the iTunes music store. Without further ado, the quote I'll be referencing for years:

"Wendy Halverson has some peace of mind."

"Right! Because now she knows that her husband wasn't murded by his hot asian mistress, but by his hunky psycho boytoy."

You can't beat that people. Ah, it's almost as great as the days when Andy was still on Conan's couch!

J fixes things...

...by popular demand. OK, ok... so I gotta a little crazy with the refresh rate on this site. It has now been set to a reasonable level and I have re-enabled cashing so it won't take forever to load. I would tell you that you should be reading the RSS feeds anyway but then you wouldn't get to see the cool little picture and wishlist and stuff that I've added to my blog.

I also removed the Alexa counter after I realized that it simply displayed me not being in the top 100,000. I thought for sure Peep Man would drive some traffic my way. Oh well. You win some you lose some right?

I still consider Peep Man a victory in his own rite.

J's quotes strike again...

...be warned Pat Benatar!

"She can't just run around acting all willy nilly making accusations like "love is a battlefield." She has to find evidence! I could just go out there and say love is a cumquat, but I don't because there's no emperical evidence to back it up.."

In reference to "Love is a Battlefield" of popular 80's pop fame.

Is somebody writing these down? I'm becoming somewhat a quote master!

J challenges Microsoft...

...to prove the Zune really exists.

Yeah, I've seen fake ones on display at Office Depot and Best Buy, but I've never actually seen somebody carrying one. Furthermore, I've never actually witnessed anybody request one at a store. Nobody I know or work with owns one, nobody I know on the web owns one. Some people I know haven't even heard of it. They've all heard of the ipod though.

I think it's all a ploy. MS wants people to believe they are actually in the MP3 player market because it's considered hip to be these days. Shame on you Microsoft. You may be able to fool the masses, but not me.

In the words of the Talented Mr. Ripley... "It's better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody." I think that's what MS is pulling here.

J Sleeps 16 hours...

...just cause. I always tell people that my sleep habits are like the laws of motion, I will continue sleeping unless acted upon by an outside source. Well yesterday into today I slept for 16 hours. I guess it's just a gift I have. I love sleep. It's the only time I'm not out there being an idiot as is my usual.

I had dreams that I, like Zoso, got a brand new iMac. I'm thinking I need to put that on my priorities list. It has such a ginormous screen and all sorts of cameras and goodies. Not that anybody is going to video conference with me, but hey.

Now that I know how smooth BootCamp is, I may even spring for Windows when I get my new iMac.

Oh yeah, and from the deep corners of my subconscious memory, I had a dream somewhere in that 16 hours about a Dvorak keyboard. I guess at some point when I was younger I heard about the Dvorak layout in passing and it just resurfaced in my dream because I had no idea what a Dvorak keyboard was when I woke up from the dream. Out of curiosity if it was real or not I Googled it when I woke up.

I discovered that the Dvorak keyboard was indeed real and it refered to the difference in key layout which is supposedly more comfortable than the standard QWERTY layout that you and I are used to. It was developed by a Seattlelite during his tenure at U of Dub. Intruiging that I would have a dream about something so random, but hey, when you sleep for 16 hours I suppose you eventually run out of relevant things to dream about.

You can check out the Dvorak keyboard layout on wikipedia by clicking here

Congrats...

...to Shalaney on the new iMac. I totally want one of those things!

Everything went smoothly. I wasn't really concerned that it wouldn't but I'd never used Bootcamp or an Intel Mac before for that matter so I was curious if it all lived up to the hype. It did.

First off, her iMac is lightning fast.

Next, Windows, for better or worse, is actually Windows. It's not emulated, it's not slower than normal or inhibited. Everything on the mac works in Windows, from the built-in webcam to the built-in wi-fi and bluetooth modules. Bootcamp also let us choose how much of the computer's hard drive we wanted dedicated to Windows.

Zoso was originally concerned about leaving Windows behind and Bootcamp was a selling point. I found it a little funny that once she had used Mac OSX for just 2 hours she was ready to toss Windows out for good. She was very reluctant to alot any hard drive space to Windows since everything had worked so well on the Mac OS.

I was rather proud of Windows in that it didn't crash or freeze immediately after installation like XP had a reputation for doing.

Zoso and I learned that writing in Japanese is definitely easier to set up on a Mac than a PC, and it appears that there is a lot of support for it already built into the OS. Go figure!

At any rate, I'm out. I haven't had much sleep! Later! Congrats again on the new Apple Zoso!

Some more of...

...my finer quotes:

"When I said that I want you to just be yourself, what I really meant was the you that I wish you were. For instance, the you who isn't best tolerated with stiff liquor and a text to Sarah to call pretending to have an emergency so I can have an excuse to ditch out on you early. Yep, that's the friend I was talking about when I asked you to be yourself... try to be more like them will you?"

"That's all? That's it? The best you can tell me is that you've always heard that T-Rexes were green? Go home. Nobody wants you here."

"They sure knew how to throw a party in ancient Rome, well, except for the lighting... that was just unecessary." ( If you don't get this, you'll probably want to read up on the torches Nero used at his dinner parties post burning of Rome.)

"Well the rest of the computer industry is trying to make things affordable, Apple is waving fancy things in front of you that you can't afford, and yet they are the only ones gaining stock-ground... now you've got to ask yourself, is Apple the new Crack?"

"I don't need a phone book, don't you see this lightsaber? I just summon the force and a damn jedi ghost appears to give me the number to Subway, that's how I reduce the enviornmental impact of cutting down trees to make phone books."

"Don't walk away while I'm lying to you!"

So, as you can see, I'm getting really bitter in my old age.

A glimpse into...

...a day in the life of J. I spent my morning trying to sleep while my dog kept waking me up trying to get me to let her in and out the house a billion times. I wasn't feeling well, and was really exhausted so I didn't feel well enough to go to work. When I finally gave in and got up for good I realized we have no food in my house so I had to run in to get breakfast because being sick, starved and exhausted wasn't taking my day in a good direction.

When I got back from town I found that my dog was apparently better at scavenging for food than I was because she found a box of Ho Ho's hidden in a back room of our house and had tried her best to eat them all. She, of course, spread tattered ho ho box and wrappers all over the house in the process.

Once I gave her a stern talking to and cleaned up her mess, I hopped online and pretty much spent the next two hours managing my bank account (since I discovered I only had $25 in it for some reason) and talking to friends. The bank account thing turned out to be an error thank god, but well illustrated my day.

I went to charge my iPod because it's battery was dead and it froze. I had to reset it and of course it was acting really funny so I had to do a full restore on it.

Next I tried to go to bed, but realized that my dog had chosen my bed to eat the ho hos on. It was covered in dog slobber and chocolate. Great. So I get my sheets into the wash, lay towels over my mattress and try to go to bed.

The DHL guy chooses that moment to deliver my package... and somebody else's. He pounded on the door so loud I thought I was on an episode of COPS. Once I picked up the packages I realized that he had decided to the neighbor's package. Attempting to be a somewhat kind summaritan I decided to deliver it to them as they were only 4 houses down. Nobody was home so I left it on the porch and went back to my house... which I had locked... with me on the outside and no key.

I discovered that my neice left one of our windows open so I had to stack Amazon.com boxes up (those things come in handy) and literally leap through the window.

I finally got back into my house to discover that the coffee machine had started of it's own will, apparently on a timer. I'm not sure why because nobody is typically home during this part of the day which makes me wonder if it does this every day. Well, because I had already made coffee the pot was full, but I had refilled the colinder for tomorrow's pot, and so scalding coffee was cascading off the counter into drawers and all over the floor.

I considered this mess and felt slightly less angry at my dog for her ho ho bing earlier as it was apparent that these things just happen.

Got that all cleaned up, and here I am.

Today has been a catastrophe of epic porportions. It almost reminds me of the worst night of my life when I was working at the convenience store, and the mouse got strangled by my mouse.

I hate today.

Have a happy...

... April Fool's Day! Don't get suckered too horribly today. No, your eyes don't decieve you, I've made quite a few updates on the Blog. Cleaned up some links that were no longer relevant, tweaked a few things here and there. Of course I also included a permanently embedded link to my Wish List on Amazon.com, should any of you want to buy me something just to remind me how cool I am.

Yes, that is an evil MySpace link up at the top. I had avoided it for as long as possible but all my friends and co-workers are using MySpace so I had to make the plunge. I still hate the interface though, but hey, the web seems to revolve around it these days so I guess I'll give it a spin.

Oddly enough I found a certain somebody hiding out on MySpace who I never thought I'd see there in a million years... Happy early birthday Joshy! I would buy you a brand new lawnmower, but it would be kinda spendy to ship that far.

Alrighty kids, I'm off to go buy soda at 1:30 in the morning because I'm an addict. Later!

OOOH!!! I do have one last bit of big news. It seems that Zoso is finally making the plunge to Apple! I will be assisting her whilst she buys the new Mac on Tuesday. I'm possibly more excited than she is. We Mac users are such a dorky bunch! I wonder if I get a toaster for inducting a newbie. Perhaps I will write to Apple and ask. Congrats in advance on the new Mac Zoso... I shall be envious.
