J Sleeps 16 hours...

...just cause. I always tell people that my sleep habits are like the laws of motion, I will continue sleeping unless acted upon by an outside source. Well yesterday into today I slept for 16 hours. I guess it's just a gift I have. I love sleep. It's the only time I'm not out there being an idiot as is my usual.

I had dreams that I, like Zoso, got a brand new iMac. I'm thinking I need to put that on my priorities list. It has such a ginormous screen and all sorts of cameras and goodies. Not that anybody is going to video conference with me, but hey.

Now that I know how smooth BootCamp is, I may even spring for Windows when I get my new iMac.

Oh yeah, and from the deep corners of my subconscious memory, I had a dream somewhere in that 16 hours about a Dvorak keyboard. I guess at some point when I was younger I heard about the Dvorak layout in passing and it just resurfaced in my dream because I had no idea what a Dvorak keyboard was when I woke up from the dream. Out of curiosity if it was real or not I Googled it when I woke up.

I discovered that the Dvorak keyboard was indeed real and it refered to the difference in key layout which is supposedly more comfortable than the standard QWERTY layout that you and I are used to. It was developed by a Seattlelite during his tenure at U of Dub. Intruiging that I would have a dream about something so random, but hey, when you sleep for 16 hours I suppose you eventually run out of relevant things to dream about.

Heh - when I worked at PNNL there was one guy who had Dvorak keyboards set up at his workstation. As far as I could tell, he was the only person in the entire Lab to do so.

It was annoying as hell to work on his machines, though I suppose it did make him more efficient.

A little piece of trivia, which may actually be an urban legend: Supposedly, QWERTY keyboards were specifically designed to slow down typing as typewriters at the time would often become jammed if you typed too quickly.
