The Fringe is awesome...
... like a mix between X Files and Silence of the Lambs.
I haven't been able to do much these last few days so I've been watching TV. I watched a show called the Fringe because it was about the only thing with new episodes this until next week. This show is AMAZING. It is a bit like Eureka, a bit like the X Files, and a bit like Silence of the Lambs. Maybe a touch of Criminal Minds but only the good parts.
It has such memorable quotes as:
"And the great thing about that, is that it's absolutely insane."
"Great! Let's make some LSD!"
"The old man who just got released from the mental institution wants to overdose you, stick you, put you in a rusty tank of water and stick a metal probe in the back of your head."
To which the response is:
"[he] would do it for me."
....
It's funny and cool and everything all at once, I immediately went and bought the season pass on Amazon Video on Demand. I'm just sad there are only 2 episodes so far and all the shows I like always get cancelled so I'm concerned it might too.

Feeling dead and dreaming odd...
... Stephen King better not steal this one.
So I had my wisdom tooth removed on Friday and it was horrible. I will never go back. On top of that I'm undermedicated considering I have the world's lowest tolerance for pain. So between that and my insomnia last night I decided to stay home today. But I had a really weird dream last night. I'm not sure if it was as great as the dream with Cat Toe, but it's certainly up there.
So it starts out that me and one other guy are like spies in some foreign country who've been caught and we are trying to escape this castle type place. He gets shot several times and I have to drag him to safety and we finally get back to the US, but then the government is after us because they don't to take responsibility for whatever it was that they had us doing. So then, I escape with this poor guy who must be dying at this point and there's nowhere I can really take him because when we try to check into hospitals they find us.
I finally found Scully from the X Files who helps us onto what I first thought was a helicopter but turned out to be a hot air balloon. The rest of the dream consists of us running away from our pursuers while flying this hot air balloon/helicopter that they apparently can't catch. Either that or they were so befuddled by it that they just decided to wait for us to land.
We were in some library running down these stairs and trying to lug this now dead guy around who we had been trying to save but now he's the only evidence of this disaster so we have to keep him with us. At some point we also saved a little kid who then rode around in with Scully and I in the hot air balloon copter.
I know... I know... my mind is a horrible, dark place where nightmares blend with hilarious comedy moments in a psychotic harmony. I think it's funny though that I always seem to rely on some random TV character to help me solve crimes. When I was abducted by Cat Toe in my other dream I blogged about we used Grissom's help from CSI. This time it was Scully from the X Files. Who knows what will come next. Perhaps I will have a use for Urkel in the future or Barney.

Now an iPhone 3G owner...
... cause I can't be trusted with my original iPhone.
So, I hadn't intended on upgrading to the iPhone 3G. Mostly because it wasn't much of an upgrade. Apple has done a reasonable job at appeasing it's first generation of iPhone customer (quietly as it may be). Here are what I perceive to be the biggest improvements from the iPhone to the iPhone 3G:
- 3G (Slightly faster speeds when not near wifi)
- GPS
- New Design (including some fixes)
3G
I was doing fine with EDGE internet when I wasn't near wifi because I spent most of my day in areas covered by WiFi, plus my area doesn't have the full 3G speeds that AT&T has in many larger markets so the speed bump wasn't as considerable as most people would receive has been my understanding. using it today it certainly isn't that "near WiFi speed" that the Jobsfather said it would be.
GPS
GPS has always been one of those technologies I thought was cool but didn't see a personal use for. I don't geocache, I don't really have much of a need for the mapping capabilities because I don't do much outdoors. I've also heard that iPhone 3G doesn't really have a true GPS capability though I'm not familiar enough with the technology to understand what makes it real or not. They certainly advertise it as true GPS on Apple's site. This just wasn't a huge draw to me. Although I must say that some of the 3rd parties are doing some really interesting things with this feature. At the end of the day, the original iPhone's Triangulation capabilities were fine for me.
New Design
This was probably the strongest draw for me, but not enough to get me to fork over $200-300. I'm happy about these things:
- Headphone Jack revision (now flush with surface)
- Tapered Edges (makes the phone easier to hold/less clunky.
- Speakers (they are stronger)
Not so happy about these things:
- Since the entire body is glossy, finger smudges EVERYWHERE!
- Screen seems smaller
- It didn't come with the dock, you have to buy that separately and the original iPhone's Dock doesn't fit the new iPhone.
At any rate, I didn't plan on buying the new one but I have a tendency to not put my phone in a case because it adds so much bulk. I like to just put my phone in my pocket and go. I've dropped my original iPhone several times and never had any trouble but Saturday I dropped it several feet onto gravel and the abrasive edge of the gravel caused a crack in the screen. It didn't crack the surface but the screen underneath. The iPhone worked and displayed fine but then the crack spread a little. Surprisingly it was still responsive to touch and all the colors and everything were still fine, but I couldn't handle the crack so I had to get a new phone.
So now I have an iPhone 3G. Hopefully they don't announce brand new models at tomorrow's "Let's Rock" Apple media event, but for now it seems to be doing fine. It was pretty simple to get set up although somewhat time consuming as it had to sync all of my music, videos, and applications, but it did fine. All ready to go!
I'll let you know if I still like the new 3G or maybe if I like it more or not as much in a few weeks. For now, just as I expected, it's not much different than my original iPhone.

So dead tired...
... that I barely have the will to go on.
I worked FOREVER today. The only reason I saw the sun was because I had to change work locations briefly. I'm so tired and I'm going to be back at work in like 6 hours. Take heed, when you love something, be sure to draw the line because if you love it enough, you'll give it your all. Nothing deserves your all but you.

Shocked and appalled...
... and possibly pissed off.
My 3rd hero (once removed) Gil Grissom is leaving CSI. I can't handle this change right now, it's a very difficult time in my life for the star of one of the only primetime TV shows I like to be leaving. He's staying on as an executive producer though and that means nothing to me. He might as well be laughing in mockery by being in any way involved if he's not going to be in every single episode.
I don't know how I missed the news on this, I guess the original cast is slowly but surely vanishing but still, you'd think that such key members would need to stay. Nobody cares if Jorja Fox or Dourdan leave. People didn't really like Dourdan anyway, but everybody love WIlliam Peterson, he makes the show!
I hope he is in several flops so that he realizes the error in his ways, or worse, I wish a sitcom upon him!

Minor Cosmetic Changes
I made some minor updates to the content of my blog's homepage. It doesn't look quite as jam packed anymore and I put some photo slideshows of my trips to India and Jamaica up to replace the random photos that used to scroll through and endlessly caused problems with Internet Explorer.
Just a heads up for those of you who read this through RSS feeds and never see the site itself!
